Bottle Drive

May 31-June 7

Bottle drive

As a group we visited two fifth grade classes where we gave a presentation to give them background knowledge on the recycling process and how and why it is important to recycle.

Once they understood why we were doing this, we gave the students two weeks to bring in as many plastic bottles as they could. In the end, they brought in a grand total of 787, which we then took to a recycling center to ensure that they would not end up in the landfill.

So What?

Why did we do this?

It is essential to the future of sustainable living on our Earth that plastic is recycled and disposed of properly to redact greenhouse gas emissions due to the burning of plastics, habitat fragmentation due to the sheer volume of landfills, and the health of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.

Recycling constantly reverberates on the topic of sustainable living. ‘Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle.’ Yet, why is this so? Recycling and the proper disposal of municipal solid waste are essential to the well-being of both the health of us humans, our oceans, our water, and our home, Earth! To maintain a functional and supportive planet, we must focus on keeping it clean and preventing pollution.

Politician Letter

To- Julia Brownly

From- Rage

Our letter is asking Ms. Brownly to continue advocacy for the SB-343 California state bill that will clarify whether or not certain plastics can be recycled. We have also requested that she advocates for increased funding for recycling opportunity in Ventura County. (public transportation, outside school etc.) A common mistake made with recycle is not only that people do not recycle but they also recycle the wrong things. Things like greasy pizza boxes, used feminine hygiene care and dirty napkins can not be recycled and by supporting the bill, more people will become aware of this.
